McPherson County Has Always Been Home

I was raised on a farm northeast of McPherson, and I still farm here today. It's where my four daughters were raised, and now we are watching our grandchildren grow up in the same community.

I have spent more than 25 years serving McPherson County because I care about the people who live here and the future we are building together.

Farming has taught me that the decisions you make today have a way of showing up later. You do not always see the results right away, but they are coming. The decisions we make in county government affect taxpayers, roads, emergency services, and the way our county grows for years to come.

I have always believed it is important to listen first, ask questions, understand the facts, and think through the long-term consequences before making a decision.

How I Approach the Job

County government deals with practical issues that affect everyday life. Most of the work is not flashy, and that is fine with me. My goal has always been to make decisions that hold up over time.

Over the years, I have found that careful planning usually beats a quick fix. Sometimes that means asking more questions before making a decision. Sometimes it means taking the extra time to understand how one decision affects another. I believe that is one reason McPherson County is in good financial shape today.

Because we have planned ahead and been careful with taxpayer dollars, I believe taxpayers should benefit whenever the county is in a position to reduce the mill levy without sacrificing the services people depend on. That is the kind of approach I will continue to support.

I have also had the opportunity to work with county leaders from Kansas and across the country. Seeing what has worked in other communities, and what has not, helps us avoid unnecessary mistakes here at home. I would rather learn from someone else's experience than make the same mistake with McPherson County tax dollars.

The decisions you make today have a way of showing up later. That is true on the farm, and it is true in county government.

Experience

Local Service

  • More than 25 years serving McPherson County
  • Empire Township official
  • 15 years on the Canton-Galva School Board
  • Nearly 12 years as McPherson County Commissioner

Working Beyond Our County

Serving on the Board of Directors of the National Association of Counties, as President of the Kansas County Association Multi Pool Insurance, and on the Prairie View Advisory Committee has given me the opportunity to work alongside county leaders from across Kansas and the nation.

Those relationships help bring practical ideas home and keep McPherson County connected to solutions that are working elsewhere.

A Record of Careful Decisions

Planned Ahead

The county completed its new administration building after years of planning and did it without borrowing money.

Stayed Disciplined

Careful budgeting has helped keep McPherson County in good financial shape and prepared for what comes next.

Kept Services Strong

Roads, bridges, emergency services, and county facilities remain at the center of the county's work.

Looking Ahead

McPherson County is a great place to live, work, and raise a family. I would like to see it stay that way.

  • Continue taking care of roads and bridges.
  • Support strong emergency services.
  • Plan growth carefully so today's decisions do not become tomorrow's problems.
  • Look for opportunities to reduce the tax burden when the county can do so responsibly.

Good county government is measured by the decisions it makes over time and whether those decisions leave the county in better shape. That is the standard I have tried to follow, and it is the standard I will continue to bring to the job.

Thank You

Serving as your County Commissioner has been one of the greatest privileges of my life. I appreciate the trust you have placed in me over the years, and I would be grateful for the opportunity to continue serving McPherson County.
